The Virginia tech Colony was officially launched on the Thirteenth of November, Nineteen Hundred and Ninety Nine with a strong group of twenty-four quality men associated. The ceremony was held in the University Student Center with the assistance of the Longwood Chapter Alumni. Nearly ninety-three years after the foundation of Phi Kappa Tau a new tradition was born that day. It is a tradition that was expected to live on for many years to come here at Virginia Tech. After two successful rushes the men expanded their brotherhood to include thirty-two members. With plans for chartering in the near future, the Phi Kappa Tau colony was sure to uphold all the traditions that the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity has established while creating new traditions for the many men who were sure to follow in the footsteps of these few dozen men. These were the most important first building years of Virginia Tech’s most promising fraternity, a fraternity that was sure to make the campus, brothers, and alumni proud while teaching a select few lucky men what it is to be a Virginia Tech Phi Tau Man.

Phi Kappa Tau’s Presence at Virginia Tech was easily recognizable almost one year later. Closing in on chartering, the brothers had worked together to bring service and pride to their campus.

January 2001 the Virginia Tech colony received notification that it had been voted to receive its charter from the national headquarters after more than a year of dedicated and devoted work from the brotherhood. The Founding Fathers, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma classes all joined in the signing of the document February Seventeenth, Two Thousand and One. From that day forth those gentlemen represented The Epsilon Chi Chapter of Phi Kappa Tau. The Epsilon Chi chapter is Phi Kappa Tau’s 143rd chartered chapter and stands strong among the other distinguished chapters around the country.

There is no telling what the future holds for the Epsilon Chi chapter, with so much still happening for the first time and new experiences each day, it is clear that Phi Kappa Tau has more to offer Virginia Tech students than any other organization. After winning several IFC awards and obtaining our first off-campus house the PhiTaus are showing why it is such a prestigious honor to be a Phi Tau Man.
